But if you want to work on your fitness and general health without overdoing it, Gentler Streak is, well, a much gentler alternative to the more hardcore fitness apps in the App Store. If you’re a dedicated gym rat permanently pushing yourself to achieve new personal bests, this probably isn’t the app for you. As before it tracks over 85 different activities, including sports such as football and basketball, and there are complications to embed your status into various watch faces. The version 2.5 update adds some useful new features including new workout views and heart rate charts – the latter with a countdown to the goals of Go Gentler or Overreaching. It feels more human than many other fitness trackers, and understands that rest days are just as important as active ones. Gentler Streak is a fitness tracker and motivator that, as the name suggests, is designed to be less punishing and more friendly than most, keeping you within your ideal daily activity levels without overdoing it. The update makes it even better and adds full support for the latest versions of watchOS and iOS. If you’re looking for an Apple Watch calculator app that can do scientific functions on your wrist, this isn’t the best app for you: we’d recommend the wonderful PCalc, which is a Swiss Army knife for numbers on your Watch as well as on your phone. Its simplicity means it’s very fast to access, and being able to access the tip feature with two taps is genuinely useful. As you’d expect, each one takes you to an appropriate calculator page: one for calculations, one for currency and/or unit conversions, and one for calculating the tip when you’re out with others. There are just three options: calculate, convert and tip. On your wrist, Calcbot is a lot simpler and a lot faster. On the iPhone it’s a very good-looking and very powerful calculator app with a history tape, expression views so you can see what you’ve input, live currency conversions, full scientific functions and automatic currency rounding, and while the app offers in-app purchases almost all of the core features are completely free. Calcbot 2 is an excellent calculator and currency converter app from Tapbots, creator of the equally excellent Tweetbot app for Twitter.
